Have colleagues that may need a little more convincing that employees need more education on this topic? Here's what we recommend explaining.

Many innovative plan designs require the employees to understand how health accounts work. But when employees don't understand, the plan designs start to malfunction:

• If employees don't understand that their employer is seeding the HSA and how to use the account to offset the high deductible, they believe their health plan is much worse than it is.
• We all forget things sometimes, but forgetting to use an HRA can open up unintended gaps in coverage, creating employee noise and again lowering how employees perceive their benefits value.

To avoid these outcomes, it's crucial to educate employees on how to effectively utilize these health accounts to maximize their benefits and dispel any negative beliefs.
